Lyrical Chris, referred to by everyone who knows him as “Hip Hop’s Grandchild,” is making waves within the music world with goals greater than glory. With a passion for music nurtured within him starting when he was two years old, Chris is on a mission to unleash a new, evolutionary genre of hip-hop music: 5D Rap, a clean, uplifting, high-vibrational sound for the soul.
Lyrical Chris didn’t step foot in a studio until 2021, but music was never a second thought. Whether through freestyling with friends at school or drawing from the influence of his older brother, who was a rapper himself, the seeds were always sown. And when it later came to releasing his debut single, “Already Know,” it was the beginning of something special. And now that something has evolved into a whole new genre of hip-hop and one characterized by love, motivation, and a complete lack of toxicity.
What is 5D Rap?
It is a genre that Lyrical Chris defines as being characterized by a set of rules, including no explicit material, no dissing, no materialism, and no fear-mongering, with the stipulation that all lyrics are appropriate for all ages. In short, it is hip hop redone with purpose and humanity. Something everyone, no matter their race, religion, age, or sex, can hit play on and feel good about.
His most recent release, “Mind of the Grandchild,” is a testament to his vision. The song is a lyrical tour through Chris’s mind and is a preview of what we can expect from his upcoming project, “Rough Draft,” the world’s first musical essay. In the style of a five-paragraph essay, each of these “paragraphs” being albums, the songs being sentences, “Mind of the Grandchild” is a glimpse at the first of these paragraphs. It’s a chapter of West Coast sounds, soul, and a twist that listeners will not see coming.
Music has already brought Lyrical Chris substantial accolades like charting on Billboard, placing in iTunes’ Top 20 Hip Hop charts, and his music is playing in over 4,000 gyms across the country. It isn’t the awards, however, that motivate him, but rather his cause. Chris is motivated to alter the frequency of hip-hop itself.
