SOURCE SPORTS: Former OSU Basketball Star Jarred Shaw Face Death Penalty For Cannabis-Laced Candy In Indonesia

Former Oklahoma State and Utah State basketball standout Jarred Shaw has been arrested in Indonesia and now faces the possibility of the death penalty after authorities allegedly found cannabis-laced candy in his possession.

Shaw, a 6’11” forward who recently played for the Tangerang Hawks in the Indonesian Basketball League, was taken into custody on May 7 after a tip from airport customs led police to raid his residence. Officers say they confiscated 132 THC-infused candies shipped from Thailand. A viral video reportedly shows Shaw shouting for help as he’s arrested.

In Indonesia, all forms of cannabis are strictly illegal, and the nation enforces some of the harshest drug laws in the world. Shaw, 34, could now face life in prison or execution if convicted.

Originally from Dallas, Shaw played college ball at Oklahoma State before transferring to Utah State, later entering the NBA D-League with the Santa Cruz Warriors in 2015. His international career led him to several teams in the IBL, including the Hawks, who promptly cut ties with him following his arrest.

“There is no room for drug users in the basketball world,” said IBL chairman Budisatrio Djiwandono.
