David Geffen Files for Divorce From Much-Younger Husband—No Prenup in Sight

After nearly two years of marriage, billionaire media mogul David Geffen has officially filed for divorce from his 32-year-old husband, David Armstrong, formerly known as Donovan Michaels, a onetime webcam performer and go-go dancer.

The 82-year-old entertainment titan submitted divorce paperwork citing irreconcilable differences, and has enlisted high-powered attorney Laura Wasser to represent him. The split marks a surprising turn in a headline-grabbing union that raised eyebrows from the very start due to the couple’s 50-year age gap and lack of a prenuptial agreement.

According to Forbes, Geffen, whose net worth is estimated at $8.7 billion, married Armstrong just one year and eleven months ago. Despite the jaw-dropping wealth surrounding the relationship, legal experts suggest Armstrong may not walk away with much, if any, of Geffen’s fortune.

That’s because under California law, Geffen’s wealth—which consists primarily of stocks, real estate, and investments—qualifies as separate property, especially since he has reportedly been retired for over 15 years. Even the dividends generated from those holdings remain Geffen’s separate property, significantly limiting Armstrong’s potential financial claims in the divorce.

While details of the couple’s relationship have been kept mostly private, their age gap and contrasting backgrounds sparked public fascination when they tied the knot. Armstrong, who once performed under the name Donovan Michaels, transitioned from adult entertainment into high society with Geffen, whose name is synonymous with music, film, and philanthropy.

At this time, there’s no word on whether Armstrong plans to contest the divorce or seek any form of financial settlement. But for now, Geffen appears ready to close this chapter with his billion-dollar portfolio largely untouched.
