Tuesday is for progress. Marcus Jordan is taking real steps toward recovery following a turbulent year. The 34-year-old son of basketball icon Michael Jordan recently shared a personal milestone on his Instagram Stories, letting followers know he’s “40 days sober and counting.” The message appeared over a photo taken at the gym, featuring GIFs that read “loading” and “in progress.” The post was later picked up by TMZ.
Get this, Jordan’s sober streak comes on the heels of his February arrest in Florida, where he was charged with DUI, drug possession, and resisting arrest. According to reports from PEOPLE Magazine, officers stated they noticed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the odor of alcohol. He also reportedly had cocaine in his possession at the time.
ICYMI, after initially pleading not guilty to the charges, Jordan acknowledged his struggles with substance use in March. His legal team requested he be enrolled in a Pre-Trial Substance Abuse Education and Treatment Intervention Program, citing ongoing issues tied to alcohol and drug use. As Complex noted, court documents pointed to “challenges” Jordan was facing related to his dependency.
Another ICYMI, at the time, Jordan made a brief public statement to clarify his focus: “I appreciate everyone reaching out. I’m focusing on @trophyroomstore right now and won’t be making any comments on recent media stories and my personal life.”
Unfortunately, the arrest wasn’t Jordan’s first brush with controversy. In 2023, a video surfaced showing him appearing to sniff an unidentified white substance while with his girlfriend Ashley Stevenson during a trip to France. The clip drew swift criticism online. The moment came shortly after his high-profile breakup with Larsa Pippen, who is now engaged to former basketball player Jeff Coby. No official statement has been made about the viral footage.
