Fifth Inmate Apprehended as Louisiana Prison Break Unravels into Scandal

That dramatic jailbreak out of New Orleans has taken a new turn, as authorities confirmed the capture of a fifth fugitive while the search for the remaining escapees intensifies across Louisiana.

Wild times.

On Tuesday, May 20, 19-year-old Corey Boyd, wanted for second-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery, and threatening a public official, was located and taken into custody. His latest charge? Simple escape, stacked atop his already serious rap sheet. Boyd had been on the run for five days.

As you can imagine, the audacious escape has not only rattled the community but also exposed deep cracks within the prison system. Investigators believe the breakout was facilitated from the inside, and 33-year-old maintenance worker Sterling Williams is now in custody for allegedly aiding the inmates.

According to officials, Williams deliberately shut off the water to a cell, allowing inmates to remove a sink and toilet and slip out through a breach in the wall. Williams told authorities he acted under duress, claiming the prisoners threatened him with a homemade weapon if he didn’t help. Whether fear or foul play drove his decision, his actions are now part of an active criminal investigation.

Law enforcement isn’t taking any chances. With roadblocks, helicopters, and K-9 units deployed across the state, the manhunt continues for the remaining escapees. At the same time, scrutiny mounts over the prison’s weak security infrastructure and questionable oversight.

Like we said, wild times.
