Well let’s get to Hip Hop story time … 2 Chainz recently pulled back the curtain on what it’s like to be in the studio with one of hip hop’s most elusive icons—and let’s just say, the energy was unique. During a candid convo on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, the Atlanta rapper broke down an unforgettable session with Eminem, revealing that the vibe came with some unexpected house rules.
“When I did work with Eminem, I couldn’t smoke in there. It was kinda funny,” 2 Chainz shared. While the rule didn’t come from Em himself, the rap legend’s inner circle wasn’t playing when it came to creating a controlled environment.
“It was his people, not Eminem. Eminem was somewhere writing, but his people are just so concerned with him, they put the speakers outside so I could listen to the beat,” he said.
Instead of catching a vibe, with some agriculture inside the studio, 2 Chainz found himself outside in the Malibu sun, blazing and vibing to the instrumental. “I’m outside, it’s a beautiful day in Malibu, I’m just smoking, the speaker’s outside. I come back in to do my verse, and the door’s closed and I’m in the booth smoking and I see Em out there and I’m like ‘he in there while I’m recording, this hard.’”
But things got a little awkward when Eminem tried to enter the booth mid-session.
“He’s about to come in and say something and some of his people are like ‘no, don’t go in there, he’s smoking,’ and Em looks like ‘sit the f**k down.’ I guess he was thinking like ‘what do you think I’m about to do?’”
