STARZ Sets Premiere Date for ‘Magic City: An American Fantasy’ Docuseries

STARZ announced that Magic City: An American Fantasy, a five-part docuseries exploring the legendary Atlanta strip club Magic City, will premiere Friday, August 15. The network also released a teaser and first-look photos highlighting the club’s founder, Michael “Mr. Magic” Barney, executive producers Jermaine Dupri and Drake, and the influential women who helped define its legacy.

The series offers an immersive look into the club’s impact on Black culture and the hip-hop industry. Magic City has long been recognized as a cultural landmark, frequented by celebrities such as 2 Chainz, Shaquille O’Neal, Killer Mike, and Big Boi, who have shared their personal stories tied to the venue in exclusive interviews.

Beyond the glitz, Magic City: An American Fantasy sheds light on the women who built the club’s allure and influence. The documentary chronicles the venue’s evolution into a kingmaker for emerging rap stars and a hub where music, politics, and celebrity culture intersect.

The series is created and executive-produced by Cole Brown and directed by Charles Todd. Production comes from Scheme Engine, with Drake’s DreamCrew Entertainment, Jermaine Dupri, and Jami Gertz also serving as executive producers. The show previously debuted at SXSW in 2024 to critical acclaim.

Episodes will stream weekly on Fridays via the STARZ app and other platforms. On traditional TV, the premiere airs August 15 at 10:00 pm ET/PT in the U.S., following the BMF season finale. Canadian audiences can catch the debut the same night at 11:00 pm ET/PT, with future episodes airing Fridays at 10:00 pm.
