[WATCH] Cam’ron Says He Originally Wrote Dipset Hit “I Really Mean It” For Lil Kim

Cam’ron recently dropped a surprising gem about one of his most iconic tracks, revealing that Dipset’s “I Really Mean It” was originally penned for none other than Lil’ Kim. During a candid segment on his sports talk show It Is What It Is, the Harlem rap legend shared that the fan-favorite anthem was never meant to be his.

“I did write a song for Lil’ Kim and she didn’t want it,” Cam said. “The lyrics changed and I ended up keeping it for myself. It was one of my biggest records.” He added, “I wrote ‘I Really Mean It’ for Lil’ Kim—same format, and she didn’t like it. That’s one of my close-out songs. I’m happy she didn’t take it.”

The revelation adds another layer to the legacy of the Just Blaze-produced banger, a standout from Dipset’s Diplomatic Immunity album that helped cement their dominance in the early 2000s.

Cam’ron also mentioned his songwriting reach extended beyond Dipset, revealing that he co-wrote 3LW’s hit “No More (Baby I’ma Do Right).” “I wrote that. ‘Promises, promises’? That’s me,” he said. “We’re real creative. Just tap in, man.”

Meanwhile, the tension between Cam and former Diplomats member Jim Jones continues to simmer. In a recent interview on Way Up with Angela Yee, Jones claimed he was deeply involved in crafting Cam’ron’s catalog: “I helped him write every one of his albums—from his first album up to Come Home With Me.” He elaborated, “I always knew how to do bars. Yeah, I damn near wrote all his music. They always say never bite the hand that feeds you, but he never fed me—I fed myself.”

Despite Jones’ claims, Cam’ron has maintained his stance on staying quiet about their personal feud, saying he would no longer respond to his former partner publicly. Their fallout has already included diss tracks, social media jabs, and even talk of boxing matches, but for now, Cam appears focused on keeping it moving—and keeping the hits coming.
