Regina Hall and Ice Spice are officially heading under the sea. The two stars have joined the voice cast for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, the latest animated feature from Paramount and Nickelodeon Animation.
The announcement dropped with a wave of new cast members, including Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro, and George Lopez, all joining the underwater ensemble. Longtime fans will be glad to know that the core crew from the original series is returning as well. That includes Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy, Mr. Lawrence as Plankton, and Mark Hamill as the Flying Dutchman. Direction comes from Derek Drymon, with a script by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will follow SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and Mr. Krabs as they descend into the deep sea on a mission to confront the ghostly Flying Dutchman. Along the way, they’ll face wild challenges and unlock secrets lurking beneath the waves.
For Ice Spice, this marks her second film credit following her role in Highest 2 Lowest, the upcoming A24 feature directed by Spike Lee. That film stars Denzel Washington as a legendary record executive caught in a high-stakes ransom plot. The cast also includes A$AP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright, and Ilfenesh Hadera. The movie is a reimagining of the classic 1963 thriller High and Low from Japanese auteur Akira Kurosawa.
With a mix of seasoned talent and fresh voices, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated animated films of 2025.
