Jim Jones is making it clear he’s not here for any comparisons between himself and rap icon Nas.
And to be honest, they are two very different rappers and artists, respectively. From eras to Harlem to Queens, differentiators. Just different.
During a recent episode of Joe and Jada, the podcast hosted by Fat Joe and Jadakiss, the Harlem vet addressed a viral video featuring a 22-year-old fan who claimed Jones holds more influence in the game than the Queensbridge lyricist. The topic sparked a thoughtful yet confident response from Capo himself.
“I was a super Nas fan, but when you get into the game, you realize your idols become rivals,” Jones said. “Not to take anything away from that. I developed my own style and my own lane that these kids started to gravitate towards, the same way I gravitated towards Nas when I was younger.”
Jadakiss chimed in with a playful jab, pointing out that even Jones’ son likely knows who Nas is. Jones quickly cleared that up.
“My son can’t tell me one Nas record,” he stated. “There must be some type of misconception when it comes to Jim Jones and what Jim Jones has done in this game. A lot of these rappers have done a tremendous job. And I take nothing away from them. But they forget, I got a hell of a catalog. Gold records, platinum records. … Check my track record. Then check everybody else’s track record.”
Rather than disrespecting Nas, Jones used the conversation to spotlight his journey. From the Dipset era to solo chart success, he made it clear he’s carved out his lane without riding anyone’s wave.
What ya’ll think? Does he have a point or nas, we meant “nah.” Ha.
