Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) has announced that Puerto Rican flyweight sensation Yankiel “El Doctorcito” Rivera (7-0, 3 KOs) will headline MVP Fight Night on Saturday, August 23, in a 12-round showdown against undefeated Venezuelan contender Angelino “Huracan” Cordova (19-0-1, 12 KOs). The bout, which streams live on DAZN, will be contested for the WBA interim flyweight world title at 112 pounds.
Rivera, a 2020 Olympian and one of the fastest-rising names in the flyweight division, enters the ring ranked #1 by the WBA, #5 by the WBC, and #7 by the WBO. Hailing from Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, the 27-year-old southpaw holds the WBA Continental, WBC Silver, and WBO Intercontinental titles. Since turning pro in 2022, Rivera has racked up an undefeated record and most recently delivered a fourth-round TKO over Angel Gonzalez in December 2024 to defend his titles.
“Fighting for the WBA interim World Championship is an honor and another great challenge,” said Rivera. “I’ve trained for this moment since I first put on gloves. Angelino is a tough opponent, and I’m preparing for war. But only one hand will be raised—and that hand will be mine. Puerto Rico, that belt is coming home!”
Cordova, the current WBO International flyweight champion, is looking to make a major statement. The 29-year-old Venezuelan made headlines in 2023 when he upset former world champion Ángel “Tito” Acosta, and he remains undefeated after 20 fights. He most recently picked up a unanimous decision win over Josue Morales in December 2024. Though his March 2024 bout with Julio Cesar Martinez for the WBC flyweight title was ruled a no contest, Cordova remains a top contender eager to prove he belongs among the elite.
Rivera vs. Cordova is expected to be a high-action bout between two hungry, undefeated fighters with world title ambitions—and only one can leave with the belt.
