Hold up, 50 Cent actually made a public apology? We must’ve been off that day, ha! Nelly recently took fans behind the scenes of one of hip-hop’s more surprising moments, sharing the time he convinced 50 Cent to publicly apologize to Ashanti during the height of the G-Unit and Murder Inc. feud. While sitting down with Fat Joe and Jadakiss on the Joe and Jada Podcast, Nelly opened up about the unexpected interaction that took place during the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.
According to Nelly, the moment unfolded after Ashanti approached him and asked for help in settling the tension. “I asked her, ‘You want me to say something to Fif?’ and she said, ‘Yes,’” Nelly recalled. He decided to step in as the peacemaker and walked over to 50 Cent to deliver her request. Without any hesitation, 50 turned around and shouted across the room, “Ashanti, I’m sorry!” instantly defusing what had once been a headline-grabbing beef.
The interesting story has since resurfaced on social media thanks to the viral podcast clip, sparking plenty of reactions across social media. Never one to shy away from chiming in, 50 Cent confirmed the incident himself. He reposted the clip on his Gram, captioning it, “This is true, no cap detected,” while giving Nelly a nod of respect. “I always liked Moe. He took off when I got hit I was hurt, I couldn’t do nothing but watch the TV.”
Maybe some place froze over that day or maybe it was all like 50 said, a moment of respect.
