Freddie Gibbs is making it clear he has no respect for rappers leaning on artificial intelligence to craft verses.
In a recent conversation with The Ringer, Gibbs criticized artists who use tools like ChatGPT in the studio instead of relying on their own pen. âLook at AI rap now man. I donât even believe nobody that write. I donât even believe if you even really make it anymore cause I done been in studios with motherfuckers and mutherfuckers is ChatGPT shit and Iâm like, âWhat in the fuck?â Like damn, how long am I gonna be able to do this shit? Cause Iâm actually making fresh shit,â he explained.
Although he didnât call anyone out directly, Gibbs doubled down on his point about authenticity. âHow long am I going to be able to do it when thereâs motherfuckers in the studio typing into a computer to get their music? We in a lazy day and age, man. Heart is dying and you got to ask a computer to write your lyrics, shit is wack,â he added.
Gibbs also opened up about tension with Ye following the release of Vultures 1. His verse on âBack to Meâ drew heavy praise, which he says didnât sit well with the Chicago star. âThis na Kanye was mad about that shit. That na was telling nas like, âMan, how the fuck this na think his verse is the best on my album?ââ Gibbs revealed.
For Gibbs, the reaction was disappointing given his admiration. âWhen I sent it to him, I sent it to him thinking that, with the premise, heâd be proud of me. âCause I look up to you. So I would think that, I rapped on your album, and people talking about it like this, you would think that a n***a like you would be proud of me. That pissed him off,â he said.
The Gary, Indiana rapper admitted he felt slighted. âA lot of that shit was a slap in the face. Iâm putting my shit on pause to be on Vultures bitch ass na. I could be recording Alfredo 2. I put a lot of shit on hold to come to Italy to work with you and for you to shit on some of my best work âcause you mad âcause nas saying itâs better, you know what Iâm saying?â
