The “Core Four” Returns: Wayans Brothers Unveil New Scary Movie for Summer 2026

The wait is officially over for horror-comedy fans. Paramount Pictures, in association with Miramax, has announced that the next installment of the iconic parody franchise, Scary Movie, will slash its way into theaters on June 12, 2026.

This marks a massive homecoming for the Wayans Brothers, who are back to executive produce, write, and star in the film that redefined the spoof genre over two decades ago.

The Synopsis: No Trope is Safe

Twenty-six years after they first outran a suspiciously familiar masked killer, the “Core Four” are back in the crosshairs. The legendary quartet—Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”)—reunite to take aim at the modern landscape of horror.

According to the official synopsis, the film will “slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, and anything with the word ‘legacy’ in it.” In true Wayans fashion, the production promises that nothing is sacred and every line will be crossed as they return to “cancel the Cancel Culture.”

The Ultimate Ensemble Cast

Directed by Michael Tiddes, the film features a powerhouse ensemble that blends franchise veterans with fresh comedic talent:

  • The Original Stars: Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall.
  • Returning Favorites & Comedy Legends: Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, and Lochlyn Munro.
  • The Next Generation: Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Heidi Gardner (SNL), and Sydney Park.
  • Fresh Faces: Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, and Savannah Lee Nassif.

Behind the Scenes

The screenplay is penned by the formidable writing team of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. The production is a true family affair, with Marlon, Shawn, Keenen, Craig, and Rick Alvarez serving as producers.

Executive producers include Jonathan Glickman, Thom Zadra, Alexandra Loewy, and Marsha L. Swinton, ensuring the film has the scale to match its biting wit.

Mark Your Calendars

With a release date set for June 12, 2026, Scary Movie is positioned to be the comedy event of the summer. As horror “origin stories” and “final chapters” continue to dominate the box office, the Wayans are ready to prove that the best way to handle a scare is with a laugh.
