A powerful chapter in youth baseball history is finally being told on its own terms.
TNT Sports, in partnership with OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, has acquired the documentary One Golden Summer, a feature that revisits the unforgettable 2014 run of Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West Little League team, the first all Black team to win the U.S. Little League Championship.
That summer, a group of young players from Chicago’s South Side captured the attention of the nation, embodying the spirit of the “Greatest Show on Dirt” with their talent, unity, and resilience. But months after their historic victory, the team’s title was stripped due to residency rule violations, shifting the narrative from celebration to controversy and leaving a lasting impact on the players and their community.
Now, One Golden Summer looks to restore balance to that story.
The film is scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, April 7 at 10:30 pm ET on TBS following the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Toronto Blue Jays broadcast, before airing on OWN as part of its OWN Spotlight series on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Following its debut at the Chicago International Film Festival, where it earned both the Chicago Award and the Audience Award for Best Documentary, the film has already been recognized for its emotional depth and cultural significance.
Directed by Kevin Shaw and produced by State Street Pictures, with Robert Teitel and Betsy Steinberg among the producers and Danny Zamost and Alex Pissios serving as executive producers, the documentary places the voices of the players front and center. Through rare footage and present day reflections, now as grown men, the former teammates revisit the triumph of their championship run and the emotional toll of the fallout that followed.
More than just a baseball story, One Golden Summer examines the intersection of excellence, community pride, and the systemic challenges that shaped the team’s journey. It highlights the bond forged between the players, a brotherhood that endured long after the headlines faded and the trophy was taken away.
At its core, the film is a reminder that history is not always defined by record books. For Jackie Robinson West, their legacy lives in the impact they made, the barriers they challenged, and the inspiration they continue to provide.
One Golden Summer stands as both a tribute and a correction, giving a historic team the space to reclaim its narrative and reminding audiences what true championship spirit really looks like.
