Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he is stepping away from golf to seek treatment and focus on his health, days after his arrest in Florida.
The 15-time major champion shared a statement on social media acknowledging the seriousness of the situation following a rollover crash that led to charges of DUI and refusal to submit to a lawful test. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,” Woods said, emphasizing his commitment to recovery and personal well-being.
Earlier in the day, Woods entered a not guilty plea to misdemeanor DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to testing, according to court filings. His attorney, Douglas Duncan, submitted the plea and requested a jury trial in Martin County Circuit Court.
The incident adds to a series of recent health and legal challenges for Woods, who has been working to return to competitive form following multiple injuries in recent years.
In his statement, Woods asked for privacy for himself and his family as he takes time to address his health and focus on recovery, both personally and professionally.
