Defending high-stakes federal charges comes with a sky-high price tag—even for music moguls.

Sean “Diddy” Combs shelled out an estimated $7 million to $8 million in legal fees throughout his high-profile, nearly two-year federal case, according to a recent report from TMZ. The staggering figure reflects the immense cost of retaining a powerhouse defense team to fight charges that carried a potential life sentence.

A High-Powered Defense Lineup

The multimillion-dollar legal tab covered an elite roster of defense attorneys, including Marc Agnifilo, Teny Geragos, Brian Steel, and Nicole Westmoreland. The team represented the Bad Boy Records founder from his initial September 2024 arrest in New York City through his eight-week trial.

The investment paid major dividends in court. Diddy originally faced severe charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution—counts that carried mandatory minimums of 15 years and potential life imprisonment.

Following the intense 2025 trial, the jury acquitted him on the top racketeering and sex trafficking counts, convicting him solely on two counts of violating the Mann Act for transporting male escorts across state lines. He was ultimately sentenced in October 2025 to 50 months in prison along with a $500,000 fine.

Prison Term Adjustments and Release Date Updates

Diddy is currently serving his 50-month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey. His projected release timeline has fluctuated multiple times due to sentence recalculations and institutional disciplinary records.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Diddy’s current scheduled release date sits at February 20, 2028. The date was adjusted back one month from a previously projected January 24, 2028 date following a reported altercation with another inmate at the facility.

While $8 million represents a massive financial hit, dodging potential decades behind bars proved to be the ultimate priority for the music icon and his legal strategists.
