TroyBoi and Morray Unite for New Single ‘La La Land’

TroyBoi has never needed to raise his voice to be heard across a festival field, and on “La La Land,” his new single with North Carolina rapper and singer Morray, he lets the low end do the talking while Morray carries the melody. Released July 31 across streaming platforms, the track is the latest single from TroyBoi’s upcoming FT EP, due August 21, and it arrives as one of the clearest statements yet of what that project is built to do: hand the producer’s signature sound to a rotating cast of vocalists and see what each one draws out of it.

The formula is not new to TroyBoi, but it has rarely felt this considered. “La La Land” follows a run of 2025 collaborations, “Jungle” with Shiwa, “Way Better” with Toxic Rob, and “HUSH” with Daya, each one testing a different pairing of his production against another artist’s voice. What sets this single apart is the specificity of the match. Morray’s vocals, shaped by years spent leading his church choir in Fayetteville, are warm, a little rough at the edges, and built for melody rather than bravado, and they land against TroyBoi’s wonky, syncopated bass in a way that feels less like a guest verse than a genuine handoff of authorship.

“I’ve been a fan of Morray for a while,” TroyBoi says. “I sent him the instrumental and he immediately connected with it. We both saw it as an opportunity to step into each other’s worlds. That’s exactly what this EP is about, bringing together different artists, influences, and styles, while keeping my production as the common thread that ties everything together.” It is a tidy summary of a career built on exactly that principle. TroyBoi’s 2018 remix of Billie Eilish’s “my boy” has since climbed toward 110 million Spotify streams, and Rihanna placed two of his productions inside her 2019 Savage X Fenty show, evidence that his sound has always traveled well beyond his own catalog.

Morray brings a different kind of proof of concept. His breakout single “Quicksand” has drawn more than 260 million YouTube views, and his catalog has moved fluidly between rap and R&B without ever fully committing to either, which makes a beat forward collaboration like this one a natural extension rather than a detour. On “La La Land,” that flexibility becomes the song’s engine. The track balances soulful, melodic rap against a heavy, syncopated low end engineered for peak festival season, riding straight into the summer rotation it was clearly built for.

The single anchors the rollout for FT, a project TroyBoi describes as a study in versatility across hip-hop, electronic, and R&B production, and its arrival lines up with his Hear2Move Tour series, which will carry him across North American clubs and festival stages through the fall. For an artist whose name is chanted as a call and response at his own shows, “La La Land” reads as a reminder that TroyBoi’s real instrument has always been curation, the ability to fold someone else’s voice into his own sound without losing either one. The EP lands August 21, and if this single is any indication, it will make the case that TroyBoi’s most interesting collaborator is whoever he decides to work with next.
