Every customer who walks through my doors feels like family. Being able to feed the people who watched me grow up and the next generation of Harlem means everything to me.”
Her connection to the kitchen started long before Fresh Catch opened its doors. Learning to cook at just eight years old alongside her mother and aunts, she discovered a natural gift for spices. In her kitchen, measuring cups have no place.
“Cooking was never about recipes in my family—it was about love, instinct, and experience,” she explains. “My mother and my aunts taught me to cook with my heart. They never measured ingredients; they tasted, smelled, and trusted their instincts. That’s exactly how I cook today. Every meal I prepare carries a little piece of the women who taught me everything I know.”
In a local seafood scene traditionally dominated by male owners, standing out as a Black woman entrepreneur brings a distinct perspective to the table. “Being a woman in this business motivates me to work even harder. I want people to know that women belong in every part of this industry,” she says. “I believe women naturally bring warmth, attention to detail, and love into everything we do. That same love goes into every plate we serve and every customer we welcome. I want people to feel like they’re eating at home.”
That commitment to quality is evident in her refusal to take fast-food shortcuts. Unlike many high-volume spots, food at Fresh Catch never sits under heat lamps all day. Every order is pulled fresh from the refrigerator and cooked to order upon request.
