Over the past few days there has been civil unrest in Oregon in the surrounding area of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. A group of armed anti-government protestors calling themselves the Citizens for Constitutional Freedom have been taking a stand against authorities ever since the arrest of two park rangers.
The severity of the protest has in the past few day risen and yesterday the protesters invaded a federal building on the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and refuse to move until there demands are met. The only dilemma is that the protestors have yet to clearly state what it is exactly that they would like accomplished. Protest spokesperson Ammon Bundy told the media by phone that,
“[They] will be [there] as long as it takes”
And although they are heavily armed, spokesperson Bundy ensures that they
“…have no intentions of using force upon anyone, [but] if force is used against us, we would defend ourselves”.
According to Bundy, who is the 40 year old son of a known anti-government activist, says that he is taking a stand against land ownership rights that the federal government has put in place. Majority of the fellow militiamen are ranchers or rancher sympathizers. Bundy claims that his group’s aim is to restore and defend the U.S. Constitution.
