#ChartChat: ‘TPAB’ Debuts at #1, ‘Fan of a Fan’ Continues To Struggle

chart-chat (1)

A complete breakdown of this week’s Hip-Hop sales.

For the first time since October 2012, Kendrick Lamar will have the #1 spot on Billboard’s top Rap Albums chart. The critically-acclaimed To Pimp A Butterfly moved 355,372 units including streams in its opening week. For comparison sake, this is slightly less than J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive debut from December of last year, which sold roughly 375,000 including streams during its first week in stores. Last week, it was announced To Pimp A Butterfly had broken Spotify’s single-day streaming record, which was previously held by Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.

Coming in behind the albums from Kendrick Lamar and Drake is Big Sean’s latest LP, Dark Sky Paradise. Down 10% from last week, Big Sean managed to sell 17,928 copies of DSP. With streams incorporated, this total is nearly doubled, at 30,854. Bringing up the rear this week is Rae Sremmurd’s SremmLife, which sold 10,657 copies including streams. Stay tuned for next week’s #ChartChat, as we anticipate to see where Action Bronson’s debut album Mr. Wonderful will end up on the charts.
