The Source delivers a brief summary Game Of Thrones Season 3

The third season of Game Of Thrones officially wrapped up on Sunday and now that we had a few days to digest this season The Source is going to discuss what we have learned.

Robb Stark & Catelyn Stark – The Stark bloodline is nearly finished after the highly anticipated Red Wedding episode. Walder Frey and Roose Bolton who betrayed the Starks to aid the Lannisters slaughtered Robb and company down at Edmure Tully’s wedding, If this season showed us anything Walder Frey may have just dethroned Joffrey for public enemy number one.

Arya Stark – This was an odd season for Arya as she was still on the road hoping to meet up with her family. A stint with the Brotherhood Without Banners led her to touring the countryside with The Hound. The Hound’s plan was to bring Arya back to Robb and Catelyn at The Twins in return for some money, but their deaths foiled that plan. Arya is no back in her peculiar predicament of having nowhere to go and no way of reuniting with her family.

King’s Landing – The King’s Landing scene is rather calm after Season 2’s Battle of Blackwater Bay. Besides the arguments and jests by Tyrion there was no real action down there in the south of Westeros. Tywin Lannister who is now ruling as Hand of the King is slowly but surely taking power away from the reckless Joffrey. Tywin has also ordered that his children all marry, Tyrion to Sansa Stark and Cersei to Loras Tyrell.

Joffrey who is growing more out of control is still trying to torture Sansa while also growing defiant of his grandfather. One of three weddings have taken place while other two will probably take place next season. Sansa and Tyrion are married while Cersei/Loras and Joffrey/Margaery wait in the background. Unlike Arya Stark, Jamie Lannister one hand and all does in fact make it home to King’s Landing.

Jon Snow – Following the events of Season 2 the Jon Snow POV takes us to his time spent with the wildlings. Beyond The Wall Jon Snow meets the much talked about King Beyond The Wall; Mance Rayder. Once with Rayder he leaves to go with Tormund Giantsbane to scale The Wall. Jon still playing the part of a wildling tries to prove himself by entering in to sexual relations with Ygritte. In the end though Jon Snow is a man of the Night’s Watch through and through as Season 3 ends with Jon Snow and Ygritte in a very touching scene. During the scene Jon Snow admits to Ygritte that he does in fact love her, but he has to go home to The Wall. Ygritte responds to that with some tough love of her own which is shooting him with three arrows.

Samwell Tarly – Sam is still the awkwardly smart but physically incapable character that he has been throughout the first and second season. After the death of Lord Commander Jeor Mormont at Craster’s house Sam heads back to The Wall. Sam doesn’t return alone though rather he brings back Gilly (Season 2) and her baby.

Bran & Rickon – Once Winterfell was put to the torch by Theon Greyjoy at the end of Season 2 Bran and Rickon Stark have had no home. The two of them along with Osha the wilding and Hodor travel the countryside looking for refuge. The party of three adds two more when they come across Jojen and Meera Reed, a brother and sister who say that Bran must go beyond The Wall to find the three-eyed crow. What we learn is that Jojen is a greenseer and has seen this in his dream and it is now his duty to get Bran to the three-eyed crow. Bran throughout his travels learns that he is a warg which means he can take over people and animals.

Daenerys Targaryen – Our favorite dragon girl now has an army behind her. In Season 3 Dany went even further in to the free cities by visiting Astapor and Yunkai. In Astapor Dany meets Ser Barristan Selmy who not only fought alongside her brother Rhaegar, but he also foiled an assassination attempt on Dany from the warlocks of Season 2. If you remember from the earlier seasons Selmy was cast out by Joffrey who said that Selmy was too old to serve in his Kingsguard anymore. Still feeling terrible about serving Robert Baratehon Selmy has since returned to aid the last Targaryean.

Using her dragons Dany freed the slaves of Astapor and gained her self an army of Unsullied. The Unsullied are some of the greatest fighters in the world because they’re trained from birth to fight. From Astapor Dany went to another slave city by the name of Yunkai. With the aid of Daario Naharis Dany freed Yunkai as well which closed out the season with the Yunkish slaves calling her ‘mother.’

Underneath it all though is some foreshadowing of what is to come between Ser Jorah, Daario, and Dany.

Theon Greyjoy – Finally, one of the biggest mysteries of this season was who is torturing Theon? Well we found out in the last episode that it is Roose Bolton’s bastard son Ramsey Snow. Ramsey is a little sick in the head as you can see with the whole tricking Theon and cutting off his manhood. Theon is in a world of trouble and the only who cares enough to rescue him is his sister.
