Police Officer Charles Kondek was killed in Tarpon Springs, Florida this morning after pursuing two suspects, in which one of the suspects opened fire on the officers, killing Kondek. The suspect attempted to leave the scene, but crashed while being pursued by other units.

The police were originally called to a noise complaint about a stranger knocking on resident’s doors in the Glen’s Eureka apartment complex on Grand Avenue in Tarpon Springs, a suburb just 25 miles outside of Tampa.

Kondek was a five year veteran of the NYPD before relocating to Florida. One of the suspects is currently in custody. No information about them has been released as of yet.

This shooting happens less than 24 hours after the highly publicized, ambush style killing of two NYPD officers in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn yesterday, which was allegedly retaliation by the gunman for the killings of Mike Brown and Eric Garner earlier this year.
