On January 20th, 2015, John Legend treated guests to special performance following the screening of “What Happened, Miss Simone?” Liz Garbus’s documentary profiles the legendary Nina Simone’s musical life as well as her civil rights activism. Garbus said, “In the sixties, when Nina Simone had her political education, music was inextricably intertwined with the movement for civil rights and today, John Legend is one of the few artists carrying that torch — his passionate commitment to social justice, education and human rights is rare and inspirational.
