In case you somehow missed it, #MakeAmericaWhiteAgain was an actual trending topic on Twitter yesterday [June 22].
Why, you ask? U.S. House candidate from Tennessee, Rick Tyler is responsible for a campaign billboard in that state that read “MAKE AMERICA WHITE AGAIN” in big, bold letters, featuring four photos to coincide.
Contrary to what the campaign seems to suggest, Tyler told a local NBC affiliate he doesn’t have hatred in his heart for “people of color.” He went on to say that the sign represents a time in American history that he’d like to revert back to: a “1960s ‘Ozzie and Harriet,’ ‘Leave It To Beaver’ time when there were no break-ins, no violent crime, no mass immigration.”
If Tyler was looking to gain some attention towards his Donald Trump inspired campaign, he certainly got it. The billboard gained so much attention and received so much backlash that it was actually taken down, according to the Congress candidate.
Even after talks of local citizens boycotting his restaurant and also attracting other negative attention, Tyler is still running to represent Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District, as he told the NBC affiliate that he will start campaigning full-time in the coming months.
