If you didn’t know, Sheryl Swoopes is an icon in the basketball world. As the first player signed to the WNBA in 1997, she is also the first female player to receive a signature shoe deal from Nike. The three-time league MVP opened doors for other WNBA stars to signature deals with the swoosh brand.
With this in mind her second signature shoe, the Nike Air Swoopes 2 is set to return this coming fall. The two-pack release will feature a white/blue/black colorway, as well as a white/red/black colorway.
Swoopes signature shoe is highlighted by the toggle lace system. Winding its way from the midfoot to the mid heel the toggle laces offer a striking appeal. An embroidered Swoosh vamp covers the tongue, meanwhile, leather and nubuck underlays and overlays create a unique contrast.
Nike’s Air Zoom branding across the midsole and an added carbon fiber plate complete the look. Although no official date has been announced yet, expect this retro silhouette to return this fall with a retail price of $160.
Swoopes retired in 2011 before being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016, as well as the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
In other news, Current WNBA star A’ja Wilson has been vocal about the salary gap between NBA and WNBA players.
