Neptunes super producer Pharrell Williams was selected to serve as music consultant for the 2012 Academy Awards. Williams, along with German film composer and music producer Hans Zimmer, will provide the theme music for this year’s ceremony, which will air this Sunday (Feb. 26). In a recent interview, Pharrell admits to the pressure of making sure the music doesn’t overshadow the show, but says he, along with Zimmer, are up for the job. “Hans is such a genius guy. His vision for this was so different than what you would usually see, but it doesn’t step beyond the parameters of what is seen as traditional because we can’t spit in the faces of the forefathers of the Oscars because they’ve done such an amazing job”, says Williams. Pharrell says that their tools are merely an orchestra, or their version of one, that they will use to “speckle” the sound of the prestigious thespian award ceremony. “Our sound is to accompany the visual. It’s not meant to get in the way. It’s meant to do its job and assist the overall pleasure.”
