It looks like the most anticipated fight is never going to happen. Many people have been wondering why Floyd Mayweather won’t fight Manny Pacquiao and he was sure to let the world know that he’s not “scared”. A question and answer session led to a 10-minute speech from Mayweather discussing exactly how he felt about the situation.
The gist of the speech basically said that it was evident Pacquiao has used performance-enhancing drugs and fighting Pacquiao would be a risk to his future health. “Health is more important than anything,” Mayweather said. “Because guess what? When my career is over, if I’m hurt because of something that has happened in a fight, I can’t come to you and say, ‘I need (money).’ “
He accused the boxing world of not caring about any of the issues. “People say, ‘We don’t give a f— if he’s taking or not; we just want to see the fight. We don’t give a f— about your health and we don’t give a f— about your family.’ ” Mayweather said. He also went on to accuse promoters Bob Arum and Don King of being money hungry and not caring about the health of the fighters. “All they care about is some f—— money. I care about a fighter’s well being because I am a fighter.”
Mayweather pointed out Pacquaio’s quick rise in weight classes as evidence to PED use. Pacquiao won titles in five different weight classes and four knockouts in nine fights since 2008. Pacquiao initially refused to take a blood test but has since agreed to do so. Another issue was Mayweather refusing to split the fight 50/50, which was Pacquiao’s request. The two may never come to terms and the sports world seems to be losing interest.
