Happy Birthday Big L

Today we remember Harlem’s very own Big L. L, having founded the Children of the Corn and a member of Diggin’ in the Crates Crew. As a solo artist his work with Kid Capri, Craig Boogie, Buckwild, Showbiz, and Lord Finesse showed much promise. His first release Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous (1995) influenced the underground scene in a major way. The Big Picture contained L’s most notorious song/single, Ebonics is a dictionary rap defining the slang/lingo used within Harlem streets.  The Big Picture, produced by DJ Premier, Ron Browz, Lord Finesse, Pete Rock, and others, added most of Big L’s fame including hit songs such as M.V.P., The Enemy, and Fall Back. L was murdered during a drive-by in Harlem, prior to the release of his second album. With only one album being released during his time, Big L has been recognized for his street related lyrics and will forever remain one of Harlem’s finest.
