NBA Rumor: Brandon Roy Might Return From Retirement & Join the Lakers

TheSource.Com

There’s been a lot of talk about Brandon Roy potentially coming back from retirement.  What’s more interesting is that now the Los Angeles Lakers have been thrown into the mix.

With the Lakers exiting the playoffs in the second round yet again the main theme is about big changes within the team.  From Andrew Bynum/Dwight Howard trades, Pau Gasol trades, bringing in Andre Iguodala and so much more.  Now there’s a report of adding Brandon Roy to the team.

According to Chris Palmer of ESPN:

Brandon Roy retired last year after suffering numerous issues with his knees.  The news shocked many people who still believed the 27-year-old guard was still playing on a high level.  Since then there’s been reports of Roy working out and possibly coming back.

In May, Roy told KGW Portland

“In the back of my mind, maybe this is something I may do again. But who knows? It’s something right now where I’m enjoying playing and not playing with the pain I had last year after going through two knee surgeries. I was never the fastest or the highest leaper but being smart — those are all little things I have up my sleeve if I do decide to play, those are all positives I do have going for me.”

I love Brandon Roy as much as anyone else and I still think he can come off the bench and cause some havoc but I don’t think he’s the answer to the Lakers’ problems.  It’s clear the team needs a young point guard to facilitate the offense.  An injury-prone Roy can’t really fix their offensive woes.  As a plus side the Lakers can get Roy for the veteran minimum, a small price to pay for a former All-Star.
