Another death, this time Chief Keef’s step-brother falls victim to the on going Chicago violence.
Ulysses “Chris” Gissendanner III is Chief Keef’s step brother. Gissendanner was unfortunately gunned down in South Chicago just two days removed from 2012. Like his step-brother, famed Interscope records artist Chief Keef, Gissendanner rapped under the moniker YPN Boomtown.
The growing issue of Chicago violence rose to national headlines just as fast as Chief Keef’s “I Don’t Like” rode the charts. Another example of the senseless killing and gang activity took place last Wednesday when Gissendanner was killed on 124th and Union.
While Gissendanner is related to the GBE rapper by marriage, Chief Keef does not have any recent ties to his fallen step-brother and the father. Gissendanner’s mother spoke about the relationship the two shared growing up with DNAInfo, “They were brothers… They used to play together, coming over to our house, getting haircuts together. A lot of brotherly stuff.” She would go on to explain her frustrations of the loss of her son,“Somebody shot my son in the back of his head, and now he’s dead.”
Recently Chief Keef made an effort to distance himself from the dangers of the streets of South Chicago. The rapper reportedly violated his probation by moving to upscale neighborhood of Northbrook, originally known to reside in Dalton.
The killing of Gissendanner doesn’t appear to be any retribution directed towards Chief Keef.
