Things are looking better this weekend after the bleak deliverance from Hollywood last week with “Texas Chainsaw 3D” bombing with audiences and critics. In fact we can look forward to a slew of huge projects coming to theaters throughout the rest of January. Two highly talked about films are being released this weekend which are sure to fill in the seats.
The Marlon Wayans led film “A Haunted House” opens up this weekend taking it back to his roots on horror spoofs. This latest parody tackles the “found footage” genre and in specific the “Paranormal Activity” franchise. Wayans brought a ridiculous amount of success to the first two installments of the “Scary Movie” series, becoming a cult classic, so we can only expect more great comedy from this film. Essence Atkins, Cedric the Entertainer, Nick Swardson, and David Koechner all star along side Wayans.
“Gangster Squad” is an ensemble crime film narrating the efforts of the LAPD working to keep the streets safe from a massive gang in the 40s. The film boasts with a pretty impressive cast with the likes of Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, and Josh Brolin all starring. The film was originally projected to hit theaters back in September but after the tragic incident at the Aurora Theater, the movie was pushed back for re-edits.
