Jeff Donna‘s lyricism is on point. Unlike many heavy lyrical emcees out, Donna does not fall prey to poor production and boring flow. He manages to find a balance between tackling tough societal issues and good feeling braggadocio or party songs.
While he hasn’t released anything since 2011, his projects have been able to stand the test of time. The Lost & Found series have a chill winter vibe to them. They are filled with futuristic electronic, jazz, and boom bap style production. It’s smooth, but has a real tinge of old school in it that will keep your head bopping.
His confident and speedy delivery commands your attention even when you will want to zone out the background music. If you are skeptical about his lyrical ability, “Grammy Family Remix” will definitely change your mind. This track was originally a freestyle recorded on a radio show. One of the standout lines is “The air is much thinner/how do I know breath/My heart is made of gold/So how do I now bleed/Every drip drop’s golden”. The song contains so many quotables that it’s ridiculous—“Be honest with me/Do I really spit that Bobby, Whitney”–which could be a good description of all of his mixtapes.
