A History of Busta Rhymes & Q-Tip Collaborations

2006: Busta Rhymes Ft. Q-Tip – “You Can’t Hold A Torch”

Thank God for J Dilla, probably the only person who could explicitly recreate “Lyrics To Go” and get the nod from Q-Tip. This beat is absolutely gorgeous, and the two emcees know just what to do with it. Once again, they are speaking to up-and-comers, who are trying to take their spot in the game. However, they fully realized that they are legends and they are now in possession of the torch, and if they don’t want to pass it, they don’t have to. Busta doubted anyone could hold the torch, so he refused; Q-Tip thought that artists lacked the essentials to make a classic. Harsh criticisms laid over a pleasant beat, a deadly addictive combination.
