Hydrate!
Dry skin looks can look very “blah” and dry hair can result in static cling and frizz.
Hydrated hair won’t be frizzy or flaky; neither will hydrated skin.
Moisturized skin is plump, elastic-like skin; this means that your moisturizer is not only protecting you from dryness, but it’s also working to prevent and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The best way to hydrate is from within, so make sure you’re drinking a lot of water.
Moisturizing is also important.
The same lotions you use in the summer may not work for you in the winter, so don’t be afraid to switch it up. Look for an oil-based lotion. If you have oily/combination skin, make sure you’re using a non-acnegenic lotion that won’t clog pores.
Moisturize several times a day, including after you shower, when your hair and skin are still wet. Use a heavier moisturizer at night.
Makeup artist & Style Network star Krystle Couso advises using Vaseline treatments at nighttime. Use some on cracked heels & hands at night, then sleep with socks and gloves on. You can also use it on your lips before bed. “When you wake up, your hands and feet will be baby soft!” Krystle exclaims.
If you’re not into using a petroleum-based product, you can always swap out the Vaseline for a product of your choice, including coconut oils, olive oils, etc. Krystle is a huge fan of this–she loves mixing extra virgin olive oil with her body lotions and Moroccan oil with her hair products to combat frizz.
Unrefined organic coconut oil is another great pick; it makes a great skin/hair/face mask. Be sure to massage it into your scalp and let it sit a while before rinsing; this will also help curb and prevent dandruff.
