This image has been the cause of debates all over our lovely social medias for the past week. Now this may seem like just a picture of a young woman on her graduation day to you but what has been cropped is her young daughter being breastfed, during the ceremony. If that seems normal to you, fine. If not, that is okay too. What is important, however, is the dialogue surrounding the photo.

California native, Karlesha Thurman, was proud of her accomplishments and thought absolutely nothing of breastfeeding her 3 month old daughter during her graduation ceremony. After receiving much backlash from strangers online, she took to her Facebook to voice her opinion saying,

“I honestly thought that as a society, people were more understanding to breastfeeding and understood the importance of breastfeeding. It’s not disgusting, it’s not a bad thing, it’s not a negative thing. It’s the best thing for my daughter. More people should do it. I was proud of the fact that not only did I graduate but that I got to share the moment with the one person who is the most important to me and that is my daughter.”

The conversation surrounding the photo ignites the question why isn’t it alright for a woman to breastfeed in public? Click here for the uncensored photo and let us know how you feel about the topic!
