We spoke with actor Allen Maldonado on the red carpet.
Tell us about your character.
I play Marcus, I’m Denzel’s co-worker in the film and I basically throughout the film try to figure out what he did prior to working and then since he’s the “old” guy at work I try to crack jokes on him … he tries to throw us off and say that he was a Pip from Gladys Knight and the Pips and shares his dance moves with us so it was a good time with him.
Tell us about Antoine Fuqua?
Antoine was great. I learned a lot just watching him. He was so focused and direct; so clear on what he wanted , and just being able to hold that presence, you know in the crew, there’s a ton of people, a ton of men to be able to hold court and everyone collaborate to make such a special film …. it shows a lot and it’s due to Antoine Foqua’s vision
What was the highlight of working with Denzel?
Just being able to talk to him off camera, and just being able to talk about sports and regular things and feel that this is my actually my counterpart. This is a co-worker … we’re sharing the screen and we’re sharing the moment, we’re working together to make a film and that was the best part of it.
You have another film called “Cake.” Can you tell us about that?
Well Jennifer Aniston is amazing. She’s amazing. And this is one of the first films she’s done that wasn’t a romantic comedy or something where’s she’s funny. She has a dramatic role and her depth … I’m excited for people to see Jennifer Aniston in this type of role and it was a pleasure and an honor to work with her.
We spoke with actor David Harbour at The Cinema Society premiere of his other film “A Walk Among The Tombstones.” He plays a crooked cop in “The Equalizer.”
Speak about collaborating with Antoine.
Harbour: Antoine is just amazing. He’s got a really big heart and I find that as a filmmaker he’s really a quiet guy and he’s just got a really big heart and he just puts that into his movies.
What was it like working with Denzel?
Harbour: Denzel’s amazing. He’s the man. He’s also got a tremendous vulnerability to him and I love big strong guys that also have this real heart.
When we interviewed Chloe Grace Moretz about “If I Stay,” she spoke about working with Denzel and Antoine.
CGM: They are amazing … I think this is the first time they’re working together since Training Day, so it’s really awesome to work with them, and I’ve learned so much from Denzel. He’s such an amazing, brilliant man, and Antoine Fuqua is one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with, so it was a really beautiful, mind opening experience.
Guests enjoyed drinks from Avion Tequila, light bites and Baked By Melissa cupcakes at the after-party, which was held at Stone Rose Lounge. “The Equalizer” hits theaters this Friday, Sept. 26.
