This could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back
After returning from a vicious ACL injury in 2012 to have a career year, nearly breaking Eric Dickerson‘s single-season rushing yard record and winning the NFL MVP, Adrian Peterson became one of the most celebrated players in the NFL, and one of the most respected athletes in North American sports. Just two years later, that squeaky clean image of the initially overlooked Oklahoma freshman has been dirtied and stomped on in a scary, methodical manner. First, reports surfaced last month that Peterson had been indicted on counts of child abuse after using “excessive” physical force to discipline his son, which prompted some news outlets to refer back to a previous, less prominent accusation from two years ago, in which the mother of one of Peterson’s child accused him of quite nearly the same thing.
Shortly after, A TMZ report involving a rape charge against Peterson–charges that were eventually thrown out–was published revealing some of the details of the case that almost was. In the report, it was clearly stated that Peterson had witnesses that corroborated his story, and a successful lie detector test, but it did nothing to help clear the black cloud hanging over both his personal and professional career.
Today, the Minnesota Star-Tribune has published an expose, dubbed “Behind Peterson’s Perfect Image Lay An Imperfect Human Being”. In it, many of the aforementioned incidents are expanded on, and a brand new situation has been brought to light, considering Peterson’s use of his All Day Foundation charity money. Below is an excerpt from the Star-Tribune.
In 2009, the charity said its largest gift, $70,000, went to Straight From the Heart Ministries in Laurel, Md. But Donna Farley, president and founder of the Maryland organization, said it never received any money from Peterson’s foundation. “There have been no outside [contributions] other than people in my own circle,” said Farley. “Adrian Peterson — definitely not.”
The article went on to reveal that in late 2011, Peterson used an All Day Foundation credit card to pay for a room that he, two relatives–one of whom was a minor–and four women occupied for a night “involving sex”. All this while Peterson was engaged to a woman not of the four in the hotel room, who had already given birth to Peterson’s child.
