Shmurda’s getting a taste of industry politics

4 months ago, Bobby Shmurda was just trying to get heard by the right people. 4 months later, just about everyone’s heard him, from Jay Z to Jimmy Fallon, and he finds himself smack dab in the middle of his first major label album rollout, for his Shmurda She Wrote EP, which will be out on November 10th. The EP will consist of 5 songs, one of them being “Hot N***a”, the song that got him here, which he’s performed just about everywhere, from Fool’s Gold Day Off to the Drake VS Wayne tour. However, he claims for some of his appearances, he’s not getting paid(?).

Yesterday in a series of Instagram posts that have since deleted, Bobby lashed out at people, presumably promoters, who have contracts with his name on them that he never signed.

Nah idgaf I’m doing all theses show not getting ma money dey got me doing shit every fucking day so its hard to keep up Witt dis shit den I ain’t got nobody to trust ain’t no help in dis bitch I’m ready to go back to da trap be4 jail #RNS dats how I feel foh.

It’s a bit disheartening to read, especially considering from the outside looking, Shmurda seems to be living every young rapper’s dream. Use the internet to get famous, get co-signed by Drake and Beyonce, get a label deal, release an EP, then an album. Still, that road can get rocky, which is what Shmurda seems to be realizing. Hopefully there are people in his corner helping to point him in the right direction, because there’s no telling what this kid’s ceiling could be. His new song, “Bobby B*tch”, has been pretty well-received across the board, proving that with a little backing, his career could be a lot more than a Vine loop and a dance.
