Where will Beast Mode take his talents towards now?
Lately, it seems like there’s a lot of love lost and egos being tested in Seahawk land. Thanks to character issues on and off the field, Seattle decided to trade their star wide receiver Percy Harvin to the New York Jets. Now after getting rid of a player the organization felt was cancerous to their team chemistry, the perfect assumption would be that for the rest of the season, it should be smooth sailing during their attempt to repeat as Super Bowl champs. But as the great ESPN college analyst Lee Corso would say, ‘NOPE! NOT SO FAST MY FRIENDS”.
Sources have repeatedly pointed to the fact that the ‘Hawks’ Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch was highly upset with the unexpected transaction involving Harvin and the Jets. In fact, he was so furious that he allegedly seriously contemplated not getting on the team bus. Actions like this are being cited as red flags from the laundry list of things Lynch did to make Seattle feel displeased. Even though Lynch has been the cornerstone to Seattle’s success, the defending Super Bowl champs feel that Marshawn displays poor leadership skills due to his introvert-like personality. After being acquired mid-season in 2010 from the Buffalo Bills, the California born running back has showcased little communication skills with his coaches in the locker room and with the media.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Seattle has already created the groundwork to make a deal to send the 4-time Pro Bowler. Mortensen states:
He might have been available for a trade by Tuesday’s deadline, sources said, but fullback Derrick Coleman broke his foot in last week’s loss to the Rams, causing backup running back Robert Turbin to be moved into a fullback role. Christine Michael will continue to get some carries.
Almost nobody — including Lynch — expects the running back to be on the roster in 2015, sources added.
Many sources believe that a deal could happen as soon as within the upcoming weeks. Other options Seattle would have is working out a way in which they can use Lynch’s service til the end of the season, then releasing the 2012 All-Pro running back. Experts are saying the Seahawks will be saving up to $7 million dollars in salary cap by letting go Lynch, a win for the organization in which they will only create space and opportunity to extend and attempt to reach a blockbuster deal with their superstar young gunner Russell Wilson. Heading into week 8 of the NFL season, Marshawn ranks 10th in rushing yards, and has compiled three touchdowns. There are plenty of NFL organizations out there who will be praising to the football gods if they were to land the aggressive running style of Beast Mode. Wherever he lands, Seattle better be careful he doesn’t release the beast from within when they matchup against one another.
Omari feels that Seattle needs to work it out with Marshawn. Replacing a running back as dominant as Lynch would be a difficult task they could’ve avoid from happening. Franchise etiquette 101: treat your superstars right before they bite you in the rear end in the long run.
