Miracles happen, once in a while
Ruby Graupera-Cassimiro gave birth to a beautiful baby in September, but the delivery process was anything but normal, and certainly cannot be explained by science. Following a c-section delivery, Graupera-Cassimiro lost consciousness due to an amniotic fluid embolism, which is a rarity that happens when the amniotic fluid of a fetus enters the maternal bloodstream. Doctors did everything they could to try to revive Ms. Graupera-Cassimiro but they were unsuccessful, and after 45 minutes they alerted the family about the ultimately tragic procedure–the baby would be fine but its mother did not survive delivery. Several family members were brought into the hospital room to say their goodbyes to their beloved. Just before doctors declared time of death, after Ms. Graupera-Cassimiro had gone close to an hour without a pulse, the unthinkable happened. We’ll let Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s spokesman, Thomas Chakurda, tell it.
She spontaneously resuscitated. We had brought the family in. We had announced to them that we had done all we could.
Not only did Ms. Graupera-Cassimiro miraculously resuscitate, but she showed no residual damage from her ordeal. Normally–“normally” is a relative term in and of itself, considering things like this don’t “normally” happen–in cases like this, there will be significant brain damage should the patient manage to regain consciousness, due to the lack of a pulse, meaning there’s no healthy blood being pumped to the brain. However, Ms. Graupera-Cassimiro is currently “a picture of health” according to Mr. Chakurda’s statement to the Associated Press.
What did the miracle herself have to say about it? “I don’t know why I was given this opportunity, but I’m very grateful for it.”
