All the fun and chaos of the “Hangover,” with an unlikely bromance that will melt your heart. “The Wedding Ringer” will have you laughing until you cry.
Directed by Jeremy Garelick, “The Wedding Ringer” stars Kevin Hart, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Josh Gad and Alan Ritchson. Kevin Hart inarguably steals the show as he delivers most of the comedically charged dialogue and rapid-fire wit and the chemistry between he and Josh Gad is undeniable. The film centers around a career-focused man, Doug, (Josh Gad) who is in desperate need of a best man as his wedding swiftly approaches. With no other alternative, Doug finds himself in the unusual predicament of having to hire a best man, but the chaos doesn’t stop there. Not only is Doug in need of a best man, he’s also looking for 7 groomsmen. Laughter, chaos and physical harm ensues as Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) transforms himself and miraculously pulls together an unlikely group of men to help Doug pull off the elusive “Golden Tux.”
Although the film is comedic and at times ridiculous, the subtle tones of sentimentality add depth and substance to this otherwise seemingly basic comedy. Both Doug and Jimmy grow and develop over the course of their week together and realize what their real priorities are. What starts out as a man’s way of appeasing his fiancé and lying about his social life, culminates in a heartfelt reality that we all want to be wanted and need to be needed. The ending will definitely keep audiences on their toes, so go find out if Doug and Jimmy are able to pull it off.
