A small, small piece of justice
Six years ago, Jarred Harrell abducted a 7-year old girl, Somer Thompson, while she was walking home from school in Florida. He held her captive, raped her, and killed her, then dumped her body in the trash can. Harrell is currently serving a life sentence in prison.
This past Thursday, exactly 6 years after the vicious attack, Diena Thompson, with a heavy heart bent on getting some closure, burned Harrell’s foreclosed home to the ground. The kicker? She had some help.
After the home was seized by bankers, possession was transferred over to the Somer Thompson foundation, run by Diena, who made the clever decision to donate it to the fire department for training exercises. So, when it came time to practice on that house, who better to ignite the flare that would bring it to its smoky demise than Diena? It’s an incredibly heart-warming story brought about by an equally incredibly unfortunate event, but the look on Diena Thompson’s face in the above video clip says it all.
