Another family, another haunting
The “Insidious” franchise has been one of the most talked about scary movie franchises ever since the first Insidious movie came out in 2010. Starting out as a low budget horror film, to this day the franchise has over 4 million fans eagerly awaiting for what writer Leigh Whannell and director James Wan will com up with next. Well, the wait is finally over. The highly anticipated Insidious: Chapter 3 trailer premiered on Tuesday, March 17, 2015.
Insidious: Chapter 3 will be the prequel to the first two movies, telling the story of Elise Rainier, one of the characters who had a central role in the first two movies. Elise is an expert on ‘The Further,’ which is the space separated from the real world that is the home to all the demonic ghosts and evil spirits, which have haunted innocent families for many, many years, in search of finding a way back into the real world. In this film, there is a whole new family being haunted, by new, and more evil demons than fans have seen in the first two movies. Insidious: Chapter 3 will be the origin story for Elise, played by the talented Lin Shaye, and will let fans discover how Elise started out as an expert on ‘The Further’ and what she had to face before she met the Lambert family.
After the trailer premiered, actress Lin Shaye came on to the stage for a Q&A, letting fans ask her questions that they have been wondering about the movie ever since it started out. When she was asked about what it was like to explore her character’s origin and be a part of an origin movie and she replied that as an actor, she loves to explore the plot of these movies and really fill in the blank spaces, not only for herself, but for the fans as well. She also thought it would be interesting to explore her character further to understand why she acts the way she does and to really explore her depth. And then when she was asked about why the Insidious franchise has become so popular, Lin gave credit to writer and director Leigh and James for making the story so good. She told the audience that not only do these two take a horror story plot and run with it, but they also add a lot of emotionality to the script—so much so that Lin admitted that she cried during the filming of it. She also adds that the reason this franchise has become so popular and has struck so much fear in its audiences is the whole idea of ‘The Further.’ ‘The Further’ is a place that represents the unknown, and the unknown is something that evokes fear in the viewer and according to Lin, fear is one of the strongest emotions humans have. Overall, Lin said that she has very high hopes for this new movie and based on this franchise’s track record, it is likely that it will be just as good, and just as scary as the last two. Insidious: Chapter 3 will hit theaters on June 5, 2015.
