Absolutely flawless cover, to say the least.
Our First Lady Michelle Obama and actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Kerry Washington posed for the new cover of Glamour magazine. Make no mistake in thinking they just did it for the picture; these three very powerful women teamed up to bring awareness and aid to military women and families through the First Lady’s “Joining Forces” initiative, which she helped launch in 2011.
It may be ironic to see the Scandal star actually sitting alongside the real First Lady in the Blue Room of The White House, but Washington and Parker are a part of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, and are assisting the First Lady in her crusade for servicewomen and to spread the crucial message: This Memorial Day, America’s servicewomen, veterans, and military wives—courageous women—need our help.
The trio of powerhouse women all have a plateful of commitments, as Washington plays the star Olivia Pope on ABC’s hit series, SJP plays Maggie in the upcoming romantic comedy All Roads Lead to Rome and designs the SJP shoe collection, and Mrs. Obama, well she just assists her husband in running the nation, no biggie. Not to mention, all of them are dedicated mothers.
With that being said, aside from the lime light and fame that comes with their lifestyles, these women are just that: Women, like the rest of us! They’re joining forces to take a stand and use their platforms to spread a very necessary message.
“When I was going through this (when President Obama got into politics), I was in my thirties, I had my career, and I had family with me,” the First Lady recalled of the time when she was forced to adapt to her husband’s absence due to his career. “My advice is, ask for help. Keep asking. Because that’s the only way I survived. My women friends–how we get through is we reach out.”
