Serena Williams Wins Her 3rd French Open And 20th Grand Slam Title

Serena Williams stands third on the career list for major singles titles after her French Open victory Saturday

Serena Williams even in her worst comes out on top. The living tennis legend said that she stayed in bed at her Paris apartment until “4 or 5” p.m. Friday, then went for a walk, only to feel worse from a case of the flu. Saturday’s 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-2 victory over Safarova was what might have been Williams’ most challenging run to a Grand Slam singles title. Williams said,

I probably topped for my most difficult time to win.”

She now has 20 major singles titles, the third most on the women’s list behind Margaret Court, with 24, and Steffi Graf, with 22.

“I think it’d be awesome,” Williams said of the Grand Slam,

But at the end of the day, it’s pretty awesome to have 20. Obviously, I would love to win a Grand Slam. I haven’t done great at Wimbledon the past two years, so I’m going to take it a day at a time there.”

And that is exactly what Ms. Williams did, she is now 20-4 in Grand Slam singles finals and still going hard.

Congrats to Serena Williams for the flawless victory from TheSource.com.
