Michael Sam Has Officially Quit Football, Citing Mental Health Issues

The cinderella story has has halted, for now

Michael Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the 7th round of the 2014 NFL Draft, making him the first openly gay player in NFL history. However, despite stellar pre-season play, Sam was cut by the Rams, and subsequently picked up and cut by the Dallas Cowboys.

Since then, Sam spent time with a Canadian football team, the Montreal Alouettes, but it appears things weren’t going as well as he would’ve hoped. Via Twitter, the former Missouri Tiger announced that he would be hanging up the pads for the foreseeable future, due to worries about his mental health.

Hopefully, Sam’s health improves and he can get back to the game he loves.
