On Tuesday afternoon, a 67-year-old man was wounded during a shooting at the suburban New York mall.

The alleged shooter was taken into custody after an attempted robbery at approximately 1 p.m., according to CNN. The victim was an unidentified employee, who was struck in the shoulder outside the store by an alleged stray bullet and is in stable condition, said Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.

The shooter fired one shot after gaining access to the Rolex section of a high-end Tourneau watch store. Reports say that after firing the shot, the shooter took off on foot through Macy’s where officials lost track of him, parts of the mall was evacuated and other parts were placed on lockdown, while the rest of the mall remained open. Surrounding schools were also placed on lockdown for a period of time as well. The suspect was apprehended by a store security guard and an NYPD deputy inspector.

There had been a huge stampede, following the shot, of people running towards the exit to escape the commotion.

There is video footage showing shoppers standing outside the mall in groups, conversing on their phones, while heavily armed officers closed in on the shopping mall.

Police responded to the robbery as a possible active shooter situation.
