Hollywood anxiously awaited the official nominees for the 88th Annual Academy Awards as the list was finalized this morning during a special two part news conference, aired live on ABC.
Inside the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, the president of the Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs was joined by directors Guillermo Del Toro, Ang Lee and actor John Krasinski to reveal the nominees.
The Academy Awards each year dishes out its prestigious honors to actors, directors, animators, cinematographers, costume designers, documentarians, makeup artists, musicians, producers, production designers, sound editors, sound mixers, visual effects editors and screenwriters.
To be hosted by Chris Rock, for the second time, the Oscars will be held Sunday, February 28th at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, and will be aired live on ABC at 7pm ET. The Oscars will be broadcast live in over 225 countries and territories around the globe.
Some of the categories announced on live television this morning included Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Directing, Film Editing, Original Score, Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Animated Feature Film, Cinematography, Costume Design, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Song, and more.
The Revenant saw the most nominations, leading the race with 12 nominations.
