A$AP Rocky has teamed up with Guess founder Paul Marciano to create ‘Guess Originals x A$AP Rocky.’
The limited edition collection was inspired by classic 90s era designs from the brand’s 30 year archives. At yesterday’s [January 14, 2016] launch of the collection at Openhouse Bowery in downtown New York, A$AP stated to The Hollywood Reporter:
“I actually looked into the archives just to see what was available and after that my main focus was silhouettes and reconfigurations, because I didn’t want it to fit exactly like those jeans back then, when they were so big and baggy. I wanted to give kids today knowledge of what Guess meant to Hip Hop and the urban community in the nineties and late eighties. From the drug dealer on the corner with the t-shirt, the rapper Nas saying ‘When I get dressed, it’s nothing less than Guess’ and Tupac in the movie Juice.”
According to Vogue:
“The collection, which goes on pre-sale January 30, includes Rocky signatures such as contrast-sleeve varsity jackets, dark skinny jeans, and a classically tailored denim jacket, as well as plenty of updates on ’90s Guess classics. Mock-neck logo tops—with the S’s replaced by dollar signs, natch—and distressed cutoffs will appeal to Rocky’s festival-girl fans (as will the price point, which opens at $34 and tops out at $228), while dark-wash overalls that reveal an A$AP Rocky x Guess logo on the bib are primed for street style domination.”
Rocky also curated a 90s era time capsule installation, on view to the public January 15-17 at Openhouse.
